PUNE COLLAB STUDENT INTERNSHIP

Students of institutes of higher education from across the country participated in the 2- month long internship hosted by the Pune Collab team.

The purpose of the internship was to introduce students to research in development policy, student- led development initiatives and the work of various NGOs across sectors based in the city of Pune. We focused on three development initiatives that exemplify the kind of work that Pune Collab hopes to see and/ or contribute to in the development sector.

Model A: Prayaas (housed at IIM- A) and Inspirit (housed at SCMHRD, Pune)

Model B: Right to Education Resource Centre (an action- research initiative at IIM-A)

Model C: Pune Collab Landscape Mapping

Research Component

Interns were involved in four distinct research projects during the internship.

The first was an introduction to field visits. Interns were asked to build a semi-structure tool for conducting interviews with families from slum areas near Shivajinagar Pune. Interns learnt to transcribe interview notes, code data, and write a report of findings.

The second was the creation of a survey tool and collection of data from NGOs across the city of Pune. Interns conducted desk research to shortlist relevant organisations, followed by conducting online and telephonic surveys.

The third project was in assisting Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakri Panchayat (KKPKP) with projects related to waste management - conducting a brand audit report of plastic waste, and on case study documenting issues faced by beneficiaries of Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act, and developed suggestions in grievance redressal mechanisms under the policy.

The guest speakers from Inspirit (SCMHRD), Reach, and Open Links Foundation interacted with our interns to discuss the work they do in the development sector, and the various issues they face.

Finally interns extracted and coded conversations between organisations from a social media platform. The data extracted from the platform is to be used for the "Collaboration Case Study" where we analyse the effectiveness of the platform in facilitating the exchange of resources between organisations.
